❤️ Happy Retirement, Dr Wendy Shaw ❤️
After more than 30 years at Newbold Surgery, the time has come for us to say goodbye, and a very happy retirement, to our wonderful Dr Wendy Shaw. It is difficult to put into words quite what Wendy has meant to Newbold. Over more than three decades, she has cared for thousands of patients, often caring for different generations of the same family. She has shared in people’s happiest moments and supported them through some of their most difficult ones. Always with kindness, compassion and a genuine desire to do the very best for the person sitting in front of her.
But there is another side of Wendy that our patients may not always have seen. Wendy looked after us too. When we’d had a tough day, when work felt like too much, when we doubted ourselves, or when life outside the surgery was giving us a particularly hard time, somehow Wendy would notice. She’d listen. She’d reassure. She’d make things feel a little more manageable. And then she’d quietly help pick us back up and get us going again.
For so many of us, she hasn’t simply been a GP we worked alongside. She has been a friend, a confidante, a source of reassurance and somebody we knew genuinely cared about us. And in doing all of that, Wendy taught us something about how to care for people too. So although she may be leaving Newbold, I’d like to think that a little bit of Dr Wendy will remain here, in all of us. When we’re faced with a difficult situation, when we’re wondering how best to help someone, or when we simply need reminding of the importance of kindness, I genuinely hope there will always be a question we ask ourselves:
“What would Dr Wendy do?” ❤️
Wendy, after more than 30 years, you leave behind far more than a career to be proud of. You leave behind thousands of patients whose lives you have touched, generations of families you have cared for, and a team of colleagues who are better for having known and worked alongside you. Quite simply, Newbold won’t be the same without you.
Thank you, Wendy, for looking after our patients. And from all of us who have had the privilege of working with you, thank you for looking after us too. We hope you have the happiest and most wonderful retirement. You have certainly earned it.
With love and enormous thanks from all of us at Newbold Surgery. ❤️
