The National Covid Vaccine Booking System
is now live
Many of you will start to receive a letter from this national system (some of you will already have this!) inviting you to book your vaccine.
We appreciate this is a very confusing time for most, and we want to reassure you that your local GP Practices have been commissioned to deliver this vaccination programme to you. We are operating a phased approach to vaccinate as many people as possible. Please be patient and we will contact you as soon as we can.
Here are your options to access the vaccine locally and support your GP Practice:
- PLEASE BE AWARE- Booking your appointment via the national system (either online or via 119) will result in you being diverted to the next available appointment out of our area, requiring a significant amount of travel.
- PLEASE call our local call centre on 01246 903 225 once you have received your national invite in order to book an appointment at a local site within Chesterfield & Dronfield PCN. All these sites are run by your local GP Practices so lots of friendly faces will be there to greet you!
Our call centres are open Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:00pm and we are working hard to provide a weekend service.
- You may receive an invite via your GP practice before you receive a national letter. This invite will have instructions on how to book your local appointment.
- If you have an appointment booked at a national site, please rest assured this appointment can be easily changed to a local site by calling 01246 903 225.
This will hugely support your local GP Practice.
We can now accept calls from the following people:
- Invited by the national letter
- Invited through the GP practice due to being extremely clinically vulnerable
- People aged 69 and above
- Registered carers
- Frontline health and social care workers
Upon arrival at the vaccination site, you will be asked to provide evidence of your eligibility for your appointment. If you try to abuse the system, you will be turned away. Abuse to volunteer marshalls or staff will not be tolerated.

We understand that many patients have received letters from NHS England inviting them to book an appointment for their Covid-19 vaccination via the national NHS booking system at Mass Vaccination Hubs or community Pharmacies.
Local surgeries are not directly involved with the national NHS booking system; and cannot influence this process, change appointments or check where your appointment is booked.
If you are an eligible patient who would prefer to be vaccinated at your local vaccination service run by the practices in your local area, please wait for an appointment and THEY WILL CONTACT YOU. They know who eligible patients are and the order in which they are able to receive the vaccine. The only thing limiting them is vaccine delivery.
If you have booked an appointment through the national NHS Booking system at an alternative venue, unfortunately general practice staff will be unable to help you with any queries. If you do use the NHS booking system please ensure you make a note of the venue your vaccination will take place.
If you already have an appointment booked at a local surgery and have since received an NHS England letter, please do not worry your appointment is still booked and will go ahead as planned.

Accessing your GP during the Coronavirus Outbreak
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, how you contact Newbold Surgery will be different at the moment. This is to limit face-to-face contact whenever possible and help stop the spread of coronavirus.
Please do not come to the surgery
unless you have an appointment.
If you need to see your GP,
please ring us on 01246 277381 first.
Face-to-face appointments are still available, but you will be asked to discuss your conditions with your GP over the phone or online first to assess what would be most appropriate for you. This can be a convenient and flexible way to receive healthcare and if you need to see your GP or a Healthcare Professional in person then this will be arranged for you if appropriate. If you are asked to come into the surgery in person for a face-to-face appointment, you must wear a face covering or visor. Measures are in place to keep you safe from infection during your visit to the surgery.
⚠️ Do not go to your GP if you have symptoms of coronavirus or are self-isolating.

During the coronavirus pandemic, our staff have been working hard to ensure that all patients who need urgent care – not just those with coronavirus – have been able to get it. To avoid unnecessary contact, some non-urgent appointments and surgeries have been postponed and others delivered differently using technology.
We will continue to ask patients to attend face-to-face services only when it is really necessary, and where it can be done safely without putting our patients, the public or our staff at greater risk of catching coronavirus. Where possible, appointments will continue to be offered using remote services such as a video or phone consultation.
If you feel unwell or have hurt yourself, you can still get the care and treatment you need. It’s vital that if you’re having a potentially life-threatening medical emergency, such as a heart attack, stroke or really bad flare up of asthma, you contact the NHS.
You might be worrying about a mole that’s changed shape, or grown larger, and think you need to contact your GP.
Everyone in the NHS really appreciates people taking pressure off services for conditions that can be safely managed with over-the-counter medicines, and taken care of at home.
But it is crucial that for anything else that you do not risk life or wellbeing.
Contact NHS 111 online or by phone, get in touch with your GP, visit an Urgent Treatment Centre, or for emergencies go to A&E or call 999.

Please note due to the Coronavirus outbreak the facility for patients to be able to book on-line appointments has been temporarily suspended until further notice. This is to allow practice staff to assess each patient before they attend the surgery. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

The NHS in Derbyshire and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal. The risk to the general public is moderate.
Category 1 countries/areas:- Travellers arriving back to the UK from Wuhan and Hubei Province (China), Iran, Daegu or Cheongdo (Republic of Korea) or any Italian town currently under containment measures are advised to remain at home or their destination and self isolate, even if asymptomatic, and call NHS 111 to inform them of recent travel.
Category 2 countries/areas:- Travellers arriving back to the UK from Cambodia, China (except the areas referred to in category 1), Hong Kong, Northern Italy (except the areas under containment), Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Republic of Korea (except the areas referred to in category 1), Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam are advised that they do not need to undertake any special measures but if they should develop symptoms (cough, fever or shortness of breath) they should immediately:-
• Self isolate, stay indoors and avoid contact with other people
• Call NHS 111 to inform them of their recent travel to the country

Like the common cold, coronavirus infection usually occurs through close contact with a person with novel coronavirus via cough and sneezes or hand contact. A person can also be infected by touching contaminated surfaces if they do not wash their hands.
The risk of being in close contact with a person with coronavirus or contaminated surfaces is very low at the current time, as members of the public who have visited Wuhan and Hubei Province (China), Iran, Daegu or Cheongdo (Republic of Korea) or any Italian town in containment are currently in isolation.
Testing of suspected coronavirus cases is carried out in line with strict regulations. This means that suspected cases are kept in isolation, away from public areas of the GP practice and returned home also in isolation. Any equipment that come into contact with suspected cases are thoroughly cleaned as appropriate. Specific guidance has also been shared with NHS staff to help safeguard them and others. Patients can be reassured that their safety is a top priority, and are encouraged to attend all appointments as usual.
Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:
• Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport.
• Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.
