Winter Pressures

All NHS Services experience additional pressure during the winter months

Help Us to Help You Stay Safe and Well this Winter

What are we doing?

With special winter pressures funding and lots of forward planning, from December 2017 to March 2018 we are able to offer additional GP and Nurse appointments to try and cope with the extra demand that the cold weather brings. Our GP, Nurses and Health Care Assistants are also out in the community undertaking additional Home Visits for patients who are housebound and visiting the local care homes to ensure our patients are warm, well and cared for this winter. Sadly, with most patients having additional problems at this time of year, any additional appointments and visits don’t go far and demand for appointments in surgery remains very high.

What can patients do to help?

If you have minor symptoms the doctor’s surgery may not necessarily be the best place to go. You could leave with more than you came with or even pass on your germs to people who are more seriously ill.

We understand that it’s not nice to feel poorly but lots of minor illnesses, coughs and colds need to run their course and seeing a GP won’t magically change this. Can you get advice from the NHS choices website? There is a wealth of knowledge around how long certain illnesses should last and when you should start to be concerned. Is this something you could get advice from the Pharmacist for? Can you manage your illness yourself with medication purchased over the counter? Please do not make unnecessary appointments where possible.

The other thing you can help us with is to turn up for your appointment or cancel it if you no longer need it. Hours of GP and Nurse appointments are wasted each week by patients who simply don’t turn up. There is always someone else who is desperate to see a GP who could have benefited from your unwanted appointment if only you had taken the time to call us and cancel it.

Help us to provide the best service for our patients this winter. Together we can look after each other. Thank you for your help.

Patient Survey 2016/2017

Just a quick reminder that the National GP Patients Survey has been sent out to a sample of patients in this practice.  If you have received one, please can we encourage you to fill it in before the end of March 2017.  We value your views and we will use your comments to help us to continue to improve GP services in your area.

Dementia Awareness

During our QUEST event on Wednesday 9th March 2016 the staff at Newbold Surgery received training to become Dementia Friends. The training was given by Mrs Hazel Shaw of the Alzheimer’s Society and was well received by all.

A Dementia Friend is someone who through appropriate training learns what it’s like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into positive actions.

As a Dementia Friend there are lots of ways you can help people who live with Dementia. Spread the word, tell your friends, visit someone living with dementia, become a volunteer or encourage others to become a Dementia Friend. With better understanding we can all make a difference.

International Calls

Unfortunately due to an international telephone hacking problem Newbold Surgery is no longer able to accept or make international calls as these are now blocked from our telephone system.
